1890 respondent emphasized need for looking at options beyond grants. The 1890 respondent emphasized “Fundraising outside of grantsmanship that doesn’t compete with the university’s efforts/plans.” Another 1862 respondent alluded to need for training to fi x issues associated with mismanagement of funds and “ pressuring employees to work overtime without pay and at vastly underpaid wage by guilting employees into working for free in the name of community service and promise of future employment and funds.”

Other responses attributed to funding and other resources in response to “other” from the overarching training needs question included the following.

 Funding sources to support budgets for non-tenured faculty as exist for tenured faculty

 “Funding to recruit, retain, and develop qualified human resources” as “private sector opportunities offer more competitive remuneration packages”

 “Capacity for implementation of strategies within the national framework for health equity & wellbeing” framework

Supervisory Skills Supervisory skills incorporated coaching which was also included in career progression and mentoring from career progression and professional development. In addition, supervisory skills included moving into supervisory roles, performance evaluation and team development. This category ranked second in terms of training needs for 1890 Land-grants, sixth for 1862 Land-grants, and eight for 1994 Land-grants. Team development was the top ranked response across all institutional responses (Table 20). For 1890 Land- grants, this was followed by moving into supervisory roles and performance evaluation. In 1862 responses, mentoring ranked second, followed by coaching. The number of responses in this category was low, but moving into supervisory roles ranked second, followed by performance evaluation.
