Pawāhān - kēsoq . This is the threshing moon. During this moon, wild rice is harvested. Storytelling, feasts, and weather patterns are integral to wild ricing. Other wild foods harvested include ginseng and cranberries. Home and community gardens are nearing the end of the growing season, with corn and winter squashes being the last foods harvested. Penīpīmakat - kēsoq . This is the falling leaves moon. During this moon, the leaves begin to fall. The leaves are regeneration for the forest and all the plant ecosystems within. Final foods harvested from gardens are being preserved/dried or have already been preserved and dried in preparation for winter. The final hard freeze ends the gardening season. Pākatāhkamekat - kēsoq . This is the freezing moon. During this moon, families are hunting deer. Harvested deer are processed and preserved. Meat is given to elders and shared among families. Snow during this moon is always appreciated.

Nīpātepaeh - kēsoq. This is the night moon. During this moon, the night is longer than the day. It is usually during this moon that the heavy snowfalls begin. Fires are burning to keep warm.

Anāmaehkatwan - kēsoq . This is the handshaking moon. Handshaking moon is typically the coldest time of year. Storytelling, long visits, and checking on family are activities that happen during the handshaking moon. The lake ice thickens and ice fishing can begin during this moon.

Nam a͞ epen- kēsoq . This is the sucker moon. Hopefully, lake ice is safe for continued ice fishing. Fish caught are sustaining through the last of the winter season.

Wan a͞ ew- kēsoq . This is the crusted snow moon. Hard, crusty snow is a sign of changing seasons, and this usually happens in spring. Attention is paid to the weather, and preparations for the sugaring moon are beginning.
