Engaging Communities Through Issues Forums

be shared with group members, and the planning committee. To capture individual actions, consider using a Qualtrics survey to be completed by each participant. Prepare PowerPoint slides that offer an overview of the process and the questions and allocated time that will be spent on each step in the Strategic Doing™ process you are using. This will be used by the key Strategic Doi ng™ facilitator and is a guide for the small groups to know where they should be in the process throughout the activity. To keep group report-outs focused, provide instruction about what information will be shared and the length of time they have for sharing. To keep things moving, distribute no more than 3 pieces of information in 3-5 minutes or less. A visual reminder of when there is 30 seconds left can reduce the awkwardness of having to interrupt for the sake of moving on.

During the Forum - Strategic Doing™ Activity Steps 1. As a full group, introduce the Strategic Doing™ process. Provide directions and inform them of the time frame and timed steps. 2. Invite participants to join a subtopic group. 3. Follow the steps you’ve chosen for your Strategic Doing™ process 4. Provide time for report-out from each group so that all participants see what will be happening moving forward and to see the big picture 5. Groups turn into the lead facilitator a list of group members and contact information, and group and individual action commitments; this is one of the pages of the Strategic Doing ™ packet. 6. Ask individuals to turn in their plans to the overall group facilitator (host) for documenting and sharing out to the whole group after the forum. Also, so that follow-up can be done to see how things are progressing. 7. Groups may want to appoint a Strategic Doing ™ Chief Doing Officer – someone who will stay connected with the group to see that their activities are completed. This person could also report back to the Forum Organizer for reporting purposes (this may or may not be the group facilitator/note taker). 8. Best practice for moving actions forward would be to include time for the groups to set timeframes for completing tasks and report back to the Strategic Doing ™ Organizer.
