Fellow Report: National Extension Climate Action Team (NECAT) Climate Fellow/Post-doc Dr. Sabrina Dill was hired at 0.50 FTE beginning May 15 and is hosted by Montana State University under the supervision of Dr. Paul Lachapelle and NECAT Co-PIs Betsy Newman and Jennison Kipp.
NECAT Communications Fellow Heather Hubbard with UF/IFAS for Resource Efficient Communities hired at 0.50 FTE beginning May 3.
On May 11, Western Rural Development Center’s (WRDC) Don Albrecht and Betsy Newman were contacted by Sarah Alexander, AGU/AAAS Congressional Science and Engineering Fellow Office of Senator Tina Smith. Senator Smith and staff, “are interested in thinking about how we can leverage the trusted agricultural extension network to address climate change. As part of this, we wanted to reach out and learn more about the National Extension Climate initiative and its current policies.” On May 19 NECAT Co–PIs Betsey and Jennison and the new hired Sabrina Dill, along with NECI leadership Paul Lachepelle, Roslyn McCann and David Kay and WRDC’s Don Albrecht met with Mrs. Alexander to discuss Cooperative Extension’s unique position to address and deliver climate mitigation and resilient education to the nation, along with challenges within CES and federal agencies to effectively address the climate crisis. These discussions are ongoing.
