■ LGUs structure DEI positions differently. This may lead to future learning about promising practices. ■ Promoting DEI efforts within politically charged environments requires careful planning and insights. ○ DEI Program Action Team (PAT) is different from other ECOP PATs in that it focuses on how Extension goes about its work rather than what content/subject matter needs to be addressed. ● Mid-term (behavior) ○ New Coming Together state teams are organizing initial training events within their respective states. ○ Coming Together teams report greater support from leadership in some states ○ Positive conversations around race are increasing as a larger number of people gain skills and comfort. ○ Specific to the ECOP DEI Program Action Team, the numbers of colleagues working and grappling with these complex issues continues to grow. While this causes the team to move more slowly, the expanded engagement ensures a broader voice in the process – its own DEI victory. ● Long-term (condition) ○ Specific to the ECOP DEI Program Action Team, while it is likely too early to state this as a definite long-term impact, the value of convening this team on a regular (monthly) basis seems to be contributing to more consistent, intentional conversations within the system. ● Specific to Coming Together for Racial Understanding: ○ In states with multiple Land-Grant Institution types (1862, 1890, 1994) – collaboration is increasing where state training teams are built and working across institution types. The collaboration extends beyond Coming Together as teams build trust that can extend to other initiatives. ○ Trust-building and increased comfort in dialogues are reported by participants across training events. This is the ultimate purpose of the dialogue work. ● Specific to the ECOP DEI Program Action Team: ○ Metrics: The team has piloted and refined a survey that will begin to set a baseline understanding of the DEI climate in the LGU system. Working with both ECOP and ESCOP, a scan of university DEI contacts is almost complete. These contacts will be the recipient of the survey. ○ Promising Programs: The team is seeking to define what "promising programs" means. The learning is that we as a system have not taken much time to define DEI expectations in programs. This deliberation is challenging, but important. This team met with the Resource Repository team (see below) during the last session to dovetail efforts where possible.
