Conducting a Systematic Scoping Review to Identify Climate Change Programming for Young Children

Food Recovery for Rhode Island Expansion

LONG-TERM GOAL To empower Extension professionals with the resources to address climate change through impactful programming for future generations PROJECT CONTEXT Long-term climate action requires educating young chil- dren—especially in under-resourced communities—shaping their behavior and preparing them to champion solutions as they grow. Educating children also influences parents, creating a ripple effect of awareness within families and communities. GOALS FOR NTAE GRANT PERIOD • Conduct a systematic scoping review of existing climate change education programs for young children, their families, and caregivers—including programming de- veloped and/or delivered by Extension educators and non-Extension resources. • Prepare a peer-reviewed publication to reach a wider audience of Extension faculty and staff, in Arizona and beyond.

GOALS FOR NTAE GRANT PERIOD • Empower communities through education, dialogue, and volunteerism by building on the success of the Food Recovery for Rhode Island program. • Document, publish, and present a ready-to-duplicate-and-mod- ify consumer education and community development Extension program that any interested state can implement. • Create a universal evaluation tool to communicate impact nationally. • Initiate national collaboration among Extension professionals engaged in the food recovery and volunteerism fields.
