Building Sustainability for Salir Adelante Caminos a Nuestro Futuro (Pathways for Our Future) Fellow: Kimberly Greder, Iowa State university Team Work Plan Fellow Report: 1. We developed a draft case statement and are waiting for additional feedback. 2. Team members met to identify specific external and internal partners to focus on strengthening and developing new relationships. External relationships: Presented information about Salir Adelante at state LULAC meeting, and identified communities that have both a LULAC council and local Salir Adelante teams. Identified individuals to contact who are with Spanish media outlets (radio, newspaper). Internal relationships: Met with ISU Student Chapter of Women in Science and Engineering to explore ways to collaborate. Met with 4-H staff who provide leadership to 4-H Career Pathways Program to start exploring potential ways to partner. Invited Extension staff who are not directly involved with Salir Adelante to serve as reviewers for mini-grants offered to sites- provides them opportunity to learn more about Salir Adelante and potentially see opportunities to partner. Published news release about Salir Adelante that was distributed to extension staff. Significant Results: 1. School staff in two additional communities (Ottumwa, Ames) have indicated interest in bringing Salir Adelante to their communities. 2. Seven communities have applied for mini-grants to support Salir Adelante locally. 3. Between September and November 2022, 44 Latinx parents/primary caregivers and 39 Latinx youth completed pre- and post-surveys for the Salir Adelante program. However, several more individuals participated in the program but did not complete surveys. Analyses of pre- and post-surveys revealed statistically significant improvements in several factors linked to academic success and participation in training and education beyond high school. Such factors included: (1) Parent and youth knowledge of how to help youth succeed in school and pursue training after high school (p<.000); (2) Parent academic involvement (p<.000); (3) Family communication(p<.032); (4) Youth goal setting (p<.003); and (5) Youth problem-solving (p<.001).
