Quarterly Reports NTAE Year 4 Qtr 1

Developing and Testing Confidence-building Challenge Activities for Youth in Afterschool Settings Fellow: Lisa Schainker, Utah State University Team Work Plan Fellow Report: Over this reporting period, the team has identified the two initial training that we would like to receive from our leadership consultant. These include From Me to We: Values, Trust, and Teamwork and Busy is a Choice. We have also drafted a Case Statement and will continue to refine this with the input of our key informants. In terms of project progress, we have created a project implementation timeline that outlines the work to be completed during the project year. We held a project orientation meeting that covered the project timeline, goals, and deliverables, and invited two state 4-H/Youth Development Specialists to provide training for the team on best practices for developing engaging youth activities. Additionally, we developed some guidance documents and an online proposal form to assist team members with proposing challenge activity ideas.

For this reporting period, please share your experience(s) working with your Coach, Catalysts and/or Key Informants as applicable: We have met with our coach, Chuck Hibberd, twice within this reporting period. I have appreciated Chuck’s coaching approach. He has been a good sounding board to the project team and provides meaningful input and support. We also met with Karl and it was nice to hear what resources are available to our team. Anticipated Work for Next Reporting Period: (Please list the objectives and goals for the next reporting period.) Over the next reporting period, the team will be working on identifying/creating ideas for challenge activities as well as selecting the activities that will be piloted in our partnering afterschool sites. We will recruit our afterschool sites (two rural and two urban), schedule our pilot implementation dates with those sites, draft a facilitator guide for each of the challenge activities, and prepare the implementation kits so they are ready for the pilot.
