Fellow: Gulnihal Ozbay, Delaware State University Team Work Plan

Fellow Report: During our meetings with the NATE team, we had the opportunity to discuss the approach, the timeline, the short- and long-term goals on our project “Pollution Prevention and Wastewater Phytoremediation for Improving Sustainable Agriculture Practices in Delaware”. The followings are the progresses made at the first phase of our report: 1. Background and technical reviews on the establishment of the Algal Turf Raceway (ATR) technology in the state of Delaware. 2. Understanding the current economical environmental and social impacts on the ATR in the Delaware State, and how the ATR technology benefits the farmers and the underserved communities. 3. Contacting several farmers for the establishment of the ATR system in their farms.

4. Providing a draft on the case statement of the project. 5. Identifying the potential graduate extension scholar. 6. Identifying additional program partner- Soil Scientist – Dr. Mingxin Guo

This progress was achieved by frequent meetings and discussions with the other team members and the Coach and Catalysts from the Extension Foundation as well as with a few farmers and resource managers.

Significant Results:

1. Design the ATR system 2. Preparing a draft on the Case Statement of the project 3. Outreach activities on the positive influence of the ATR system on the pollution reduction, sustainability and economic growth of the state of Delaware. 4. Identification of the potent farm and farmers for the establishment of the ATR system. 5. Recruiting extension scholar on the proposed project
