Chapter 1: Standards and Competencies
Just as evaluation standards provide guidance for making decisions when conducting program evaluation studies, evaluator competencies that specify the knowledge, skills, and dispositions central to effectively accomplishing those standards have the potential to further increase the effectiveness of evaluation efforts. — Stephena, L., King, J. A., Ghere, G., & Minnema, J. (2005).
This chapter delves into the field of evaluation principles and competencies developed by the American Evaluation Association (AEA) and through research studies conducted over time. Another critical issue for researchers and/or evaluators is to make sure that they adhere to the ethical principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice established by the Belmont Report.
The chapter contents include:
Evaluation Guiding Principles
Evaluation Cultural Competence
Evaluator Competencies
Human-Subjects Research
Standards and Competencies: Guiding principles, cultural competence, competencies, and working with human subjects.
