TRIADWORKINGGROUPGUIDE
The benefit statements shared at the beginning of the Institute set the stage by articulating the perspective of each triad member in participating in this joint effort and identifying the general barriers to that collaboration. The purpose of the working groups is to take that general articulation to a more specific plan of action relative to your goal to growth.
Objective
Develop a joint plan for growthof 4-H that builds and builds on the capacityof Extensionand the University to reach more youth reflecting the changing face of the state and responsiveness to the changing expectations of youth and their families.
Possible discussionpoints to begin the planningprocess
• Goal setting. Where do we want to be five years from now? Possible dimensions include: o In terms of collaboration together o In terms of 4-H membership o In terms of 4-H programcontent o In terms of youth outcomes o In terms of the strengthof the University, Extension and 4-H in our community
• Situation assessment. Where arewe on the Pathway? Howdo we know? What more do we need to know to understandwhere we are?
• Understanding assets. What are our strengths tomove forward on the Pathway? What assets do we have to work with?
• Understanding barriers. What are the three fundamental things that would have to change in order to move forward (people, processes, resources, etc.). o For the University o For Extension o For 4-H • Organizing assets to reach goals. What are the first three things we need to do together to reach the goal? What does that mean for eachof us? What are the three things eachof us has to accomplish so that we can accomplish those three things together? Howcanprivate philanthropy and a relationship with the University Foundation help position community engagement as anasset froma local resourc e point of view? What’s a concrete step you can take toward building a relationship with the University Foundation (if there isn’t one already) ? • Putting the Plan on the Pathway. Howwould all of that move us along the Pathway? How much farther would we have to go to achieve our goal? Is our thinking aggressive enough in terms of immediate steps to get us wherewe want to go?
