Dr. Jorge Atiles
Dean of Extension and Engagementand Director of ExtensionService
In 2020, Dr. Jorge Atiles became the West Virginia University Dean of Extension and Engagement andDirector of the WVU Extension Service. Dean Atiles holds a faculty appointment as a professor in the Davis College ’s School of Design& Community Development Atiles is a dynamic national leader in engagement, collaboration, andoutreach with significant experience in the land-grant system. He previously served as
associate dean, Extension, engagement, andcontinuing education for the Colleges of Education, Health, Aviation, and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University. During his 10-year career there, he served as coordinator of the University Network on Community Engagement andassistant director of Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service-Family and Consumer Sciences State Program Leader. He also servedas a professor in the Design, Housing, andMerchandising department for the College of Human Sciences. Before Oklahoma State, Atiles served in various roles at the Universityof Georgia in Athens, Georgia, including associate dean for outreachand Extension in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, professor in the Housing and Consumer Economics Department, andassistant professor andExtension specialist for the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Atiles completed his doctorate in Housing, Interior Design, andResourceManagement at Virginia Polytechnic Institute andState University. His dissertation topic was “ManufacturedHousing: An Assessment of Community Attitudes.” He completedhis master’s deg ree inurban and regional planning from the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech. He received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from the UniversidadNacional Pedro Henriquez Urena, Dominican Republic.
Edwin Jones, Ph.D.,
Administrative Professor, Director,Virginia Cooperative Extension
Edwin Jones is the director of Virginia Cooperative Extensionand associate deanof the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech. He has served in that role since April 2011. Prior to service at Virginia Tech he servedas associate director and state program leader for Agriculture, Natural Resources, andCommunity and
Rural Development; assistant department headanddepartment extension leader in forestry; and as extension wildlife specialist and professor of forestry at North Carolina State University. He has also servedas extension wildlife specialist at Mississippi State University.
