Is tourism preserving cultural heritage, or activity harming the social structure or culture of the community where it is located?

C. Environmental Impact

 Environmental stewardship as a goal of tourism activities  Develop an Ecotourism Management Plan that seeks to “minimize negative impacts and ensure that they are outweighed by positive ones” (see Chapter 5 here)  Visual landscape  Preservation or Improvement of Natural and Built Environments (such as visual landscapes)  Degree to which tourist activities are environmentally sustainable  Conservation activities  Investment of tourism revenue in conservation  Degree to which tourism activities damage the environment (flora, fauna, water, soils, energy use, contamination, etc.) For example:  Air and water quality  Has tourism been able to maintain the quality of water in the destination?

a. In places that promote pristine and endless strips of beaches, how clear is the water from coliform bacteria contamination? b. Is there sufficient drinking water for the communities in the destination?
