Heart and Hope Family Violence Prevention Program Fellow: Julie Woodbury, University of Nevada Team Work Plan
Fellow Report: 1. The Heart & Hope (H&H) team is proud of the case statement. The content and design are fabulous. Together, they make a compelling story, ultimately asking others to get involved. 2. The conversations with Aaron, Ellen, and Hellina about program messaging, promotion, technology, and communicating program needs to an internal (within Extension) and an external (future communities to implement H&H) audience have been a tremendous help in preparing Jill and Julie to navigate delicate, tough, and important conversations going forward, all with the goal of making the program the best it can be and successful in as many communities as possible. Jill and Julie had their second meeting with UNR College Communication team members on 3/10/23. 3. The feedback and encouragement by Rose as the H&H Team writes program workshop plans propels us forward to writing. The writing is slow and steady. This task is front and center in Q3 to get 9 workshop plans each for youth/teens and children's age groups. Staff set a timeline to finish them by the end of May and are making good progress. 4. The H&H Team grew in leadership development after participating in three leadership training sessions with Karl in Q2 (5 qualities of highly effective teams, busy is a choice, and strategic planning). The motto has been no pain/no gain and the growth has been helpful, painful at times, but beneficial as we navigate expansion related questions: (1) Where do we expand? (2) How do we bring people in to help us expand to Las Vegas? (3) How do we maintain leadership and focus of the program when expanding the team? (4) What are the reasons for our approach to program development and/or our approach to writing curriculum, especially when faced with other people's ideas that may be different? (5) How do we describe our promotional needs to internal Extension staff to build understanding and buy-in? These are all tough leadership questions that Karl's leadership development training have helped us ponder and prepare to answer. 5. Staff met with Julie Halverson on 2/10/23 to discuss evaluation ideas for parents, teens, and youth participants in H&H. She provided staff with pros/cons of a retrospective pre/post evaluation design. This helped staff consider changes to make with the parent survey going forward. She also shared The Family Resource Scale as a possible component of the parent evaluation, looking at their perceptions of access to resources, time for self, and time for family. 6. Ellen produced a beautiful logo for Heart & Hope. It was designed within the UNR branding guidelines. It incorporates design elements that represent important program
