Rose Hayden-Smith: What are your favorite #scicomm IG accounts?
Brook Gamble: I think Extension can learn a lot from others in this space. A lot of individuals and non-profits are absolutely slaying it. In no particular order - and this is a very abbreviated list as I am focused on California content - are some of my favorites.

Rose Hayden-Smith: Any final thoughts?
Brook Gamble: Yes. What's actually more relevant to me, these days, than pure #scicomm are the wonderful efforts of communities seeking inclusion, equity, and environmental justice in the outdoors. I feel like this is where Instagram really shines. There is a lot of #scicomm to be found in these efforts, but also representation I haven't witnessed on other social media platforms. Amplifying voices and building communities around nature to #diversifyoutdoors is critical. Just a few:
@latinooutdoors @outdoorafro @she_explores @teresabaker11
@nativewomenswilderness
@queernature @latinxhikers @naturechola @josebilingue @unlikelyhikers
Editor’s Note: In June 2020, the UC Cal Naturalist Program began implementing a change from using the terms “citizen science” and “community science” to “participatory science.” Here is an explanation for that change.
